Roseville Pottery A to Z

Roseville Pottery signatures can be looked at in three stages beginning with the very first pieces of pottery. During the first years of the companys existence up to the early teens the pieces were signed by the artist of the company. Without these signatures the pottery would most certainly be confused with Rookwood Weller pottery pieces.
After this period some of the pieces were stamped with a blue stamp "Rv" this included some of the Venetian lines and the children's Juvenile lines. Also started during this period was the use of a paper labels on some of the lines. This continued until around 1931. Also there are pieces out there with the numbers printed on the piece with a blue marker along with the stickers and/or the Rv signature.
After 1931 and the introduction of the "Pinecone line" the use of the familiar imprinted signature "Roseville" was used on the bottoms of the pieces. Later this was changed to "Roseville USA" and was used until the demise of the company.
Along with the Roseville signature there was usually present a series of numbers identifying the piece. These numbers represented the series and the size of the piece. If the piece had the number 815-12 Then we would know the piece was a vase designated by the first number 815 and the piece was 12 inches tall as designated by the second number.
The following list shows the designated numbers for each type of pottery produced by Roseville Pottery.

100's and 200's-Cornucopia or Double Bud Vases
300's-Bowls & Plates
400's -Jardinieres
500's-Pedistals
600's-Cupidors
700's-Umbrella Stands
800's & 900's-Ewers & Vases
1100's-Candelstick Holders
1200's-Wall Pockets
1300's-Pitcher's
7000's & 7500's- Lamps

There are problably some variations on these numbers as with all potterys at that time but the list covers the major pieces produced

The following list will show the shapes and lines that are known to be marked and also the lines are known not to be marked with shape numbers. There are going to be exceptions to this list as some of the older pieces were also marked with a blue or black marker with the shape and the size number. "Marked" refers to the piece having a die impressed number or a Raised number on the bottom or back of the piece. Also included sometimes are pieces ink stamped "Rv".
